Product : PM300Serial Number : AY19/5048Firmware : ???Software : n/aAccessories : none Item Under Test : Hi,
I have a PM300 that I was calibrating with our Fluke 5520A, The Voltage cal'd fine but I am having errors with the current calibration.
Failed Calibration. I have the 3 current inputs wired in series and am applying the first cal current. I believe the first current value was 38.2 ma 120Hz. It returns a cal failure. When I checked the values separately the Current input 1 was reading about 40.3 mA inputs 2 & 3 were around 38.8 mA much closer. All I had to go by was the operators manual. Is there a service manual for this instrument? Is the reason for the cal failure because input 1 may too far out of tolerance for a correction? is there a possibility of a needed firmware upgrade? (flashed?) Is this possible or is it a hard EPROM firmware. Any info you can pass my way would be greatly appreciated.
Unit cal's fine for Voltage, get fail error when trying to do current cal
Analyser Set-Up : Input 1,2,3 connected in series for current calibration/measurement. Using Fluke 5520A for calibration.Measured Values : During use (not cal) Voltage all measured within tolerance

20A 20.06 20.04 20.08
Remote Operation : Manual operationQuestion : When unit boots up shows cal error. Successfully performed Voltage cal. Current cal fails. Shows "fail" Cannot read firmware, since unit boots up and shows cal failure. How can I correct this error. Unit seems to function OK except current is out of tolerance, and fails current cal.

Hi Russell,
The reading differences you have mentioned should not prevent calibration. Are you applying a voltage at the same time? Although we don't have a service manual, calibration is covered in the user manual and states the following: "IMPORTANT NOTE: For optimum performance, always calibrate with BOTH voltage and current present simultaneously. During voltage calibration, apply approximately 100mA from the same ac source to the current channel. During current calibration (including external shunt), apply approximately 5V from the same ac source to the voltage channel."
If you do this and still have problems then let me know.
Best regards,
Tim.

Hi,
I proceeded with your recommendation via the setup but still received the calibration fail. Upon power up it still says calibration fail, any other recommendations to resolve this issue? Thanks - Russell Laeufer

Hi Russell,
If you have checked that you are following the other instructions in the user manual (i.e. the operating frequency and signal levels) then I am at a bit of a loss. This process is normally very reliable. Is it possible you could have some noise on the signals that could over range the unit? You could try reducing the current level from the one requested so give some more headroom on the range. If it continues to fail then I think it will have to be returned to a service centre for repair.
Best regards

I tried using a lower current value but it also failed the cal. It seems it can read the current during use but Ch1 is out of spec, and when it powers up it says cal error. What do you recommend to do? Should we send it in for evaluation (RMA) or would it be cheaper for us to buy a new one from Tektronix. Please advise. Thanks

Hi Russell,
Please email service@voltech.com and they will provide you with the information you need. We offer a fixed price repair and calibration, and if the unit turns out not to be faulty for any reason, then I'm sure they will waiver the repair change. It does sound as though a fault is present though unfortunately. Let me know if I can be of any further help.
Best regards,
Tim.
