Question:
The AT3600 HPG (High Power Generator) is used for magnetizing current and other tests. Its rated at 270Vac, 2Arms, 40W. What is the peak current rating?
Answer:
Peak current rating is 3Apk. Note that for a transformer that draws a magnetizing current with a crest factor of 2 (not uncommon), the effective rms rating is reduced.
If a higher current and/or voltage is required an AC Interface accessory will be required. This increases voltage and current to 600Vrms and 10Arms respectively.
Typical measured waveforms are shown for information in the attachment “Peak current waveforms.”
