Using the DC1000A DC Current Bias Supply with Handheld meters
We have already shown how the DC1000 can be used with our own AT Testers and all industry standard LCR meters to extend the scope of your magnetics quality testing.
Customers should also be aware that the same principles will still work with simpler, cheaper handheld meters where accuracy has been deliberately traded for a more cost effective testing solution.
Test Example Of Handheld LCR Measuring Inductor with DC1000A
In this example, we have tested a COILCRAFT power inductor for saturation, (PCV-2-564-08L - Inductor, 560 µH, 7A rated)
The inductance measurements were performed using a Keysight U1733C Handheld LCR meter to record the series inductance as we apply varying DC Bias current provided by the DC1000A. (0-20A in 1A steps)
The results were plotted below.
We can see that the inductance under DC bias is constant up to and above the published specified 7 Amps, and in fact only drops below specifications at around 12 Amps. This proves the part is operating correctly.
