In modern electronic lamp drivers, the term ‘ballast’ refers to the complete circuit which provides both the starting conditions and the continuous operating conditions for the lamp. A typical electronic ballast driving two fluorescent tubes is shown to the left.
Even in a single tube application, there are a number of connections to the lamp. Therefore, the measurement of power involves the addition of a number of individual power measurements.
Voltech’s Power Analyzers have a special operating mode for the accurate measurement of voltage, current and power of the complex waveforms (shown right) associated with modern electronic ballasts.
